Auditions
Auditions are open to actors who are registered for the summer camp, and will occur on the first day. ECT encourages every student to participate in auditions! It is a great way to learn about the process of creating a main-stage musical, but also invites students to learn about themselves as actors and gain confidence when performing in front of an audience. Every student is a member of the ECT family.
What will I need prepared for auditions?
Unlike past years, students will not be required to prepare anything for auditions! The first day will consist of a series of workshops that will prepare the students for when it comes time to audition for the Production Team. However, if you would like to practice ahead of time, feel free to peruse the information below.
Audition Process
Each actor will be asked to read one of the monologues in the attached document for their audition. Don't worry, it doesn't have to be memorized!
|
Each actor will be asked to sing a short section of "Sailors and Seamen" from Peter and the Starcatcher. Don't worry, it doesn't have to be memorized and everyone will have plenty of time to learn it on the first day!

In order to keep the audition process calm, casual, and stress-free, all auditions are closed. This means that only certain members of the Production Team are in the room as students audition. ECT is a very supportive family and although other actors will not be in the room when the actual auditions occur, we encourage everyone to congratulate each other after their audition.
If actors have any questions or concerns about the audition process, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Callbacks
Callbacks will be held on the second day of camp. When the actors arrive in the morning, they will see which parts they are called back for. Each actor will be assigned scenes to read, songs to sing, and/or dances to dance. They will have plenty of time to prepare before they are asked to take the stage and perform for the Production Team.

Casting
When all auditions and callbacks are complete, the Production Team begins the very difficult job of casting the show. Every actor who auditions will get a part! The cast list will be posted that night on our website and we will hold our first official rehearsal on the next day.

Peter and the Starcatcher character breakdownBlack Stache
A notorious pirate, terrorizing the seven seas in search of a worthy adversary. Heartless, hirsute, and suspiciously well read. Partial to the poetical and theatrical, which causes him to behave quite flamboyantly. Molly Aster A young girl and Starcatcher apprentice who is taken aboard the Neverland as precious cargo. Curious and intelligent, she is only beginning to understand the confusing romantic longings that come with her age. She will risk anything for the sake of what is right. Boy/Peter A lonely and hardened orphan who doesn't miss much. Nameless, homeless, and friendless at the beginning of the play and a hero by the end. He wants a home and a family more than anything, and dreams of a life of being free. Prentiss An orphan, ambitious, hyper articulate, and logical. He yearns to be leader, even when he knows in his heart that he'll never be one. A bit of a blowhard with a touch of cowardice. Ted An orphan obsessed with food. A natural performer with easy wit and quite poetic language. Grempkin The schoolmaster of St. Norbert's Orphanage for Lost Boys. Mean and malodorous, he revels in keeping his boys in the dark and malnourished. Mrs. Bumbrake Molly's nanny, a stereotypical British cad and outfitted with the duty of teaching Molly about womanhood. She still has enough charm in her age to attract a sailor or two. Bill Slank The vicious orphaned captain of the Neverland. Does not possess the capacity to lead anyone but himself, which puts himself constantly in disaster. Greedy enough to send boys to their doom for the chance of gaining starstuff. Smee Black Stache's first mate. He is single-mindedly dedicated to his captain's every whim. Alf A seafarer, an old sea dog proud of his tenure. His kind heart gives him an appeal to the feminine sensibility. Lord Leonard Aster Molly's father, a loyal subject to the Queen. The very model of a Victorian English gentleman, he is a faithful friend and a secret Starcatcher. Captain Robert Falcon Scott Lord Aster's old school friend, the captain of the Wasp, Britain's fastest frigate. Lives with nautical bravura and heroic patriotism. Fighting Prawn King of the Mollusk natives and the son of Jumbo Prawn and Littleneck Clam, Fighting Prawn is kidnapped by British sailors and brought in chains to England where he served as a sous-chef. Ensemble Ensemble roles include: Sailors; Seamen; Seafarers; Orphans; Pirates; Mermaids; Mollusks; Narrators; Teacher; Hawking Clam; Mack; Sanchez. All students will be considered for all roles regardless of gender identity or race.
